Housing Paralegal

Full Time

1. Assisting fee earners with case preparation, including legal research, document reviews,
interviewing witnesses and drafting statements, processing evidence, preparing, collating
and ordering documentation, attending on clients and witnesses, and attending conferences
and court.
2. You will be experienced in housing law (including possession proceedings, eviction, disrepair,
and homelessness) and be willing to act for the tenants. You will need to share our passion
for access to justice, have good knowledge of the legal aid scheme and experience of private
client work. You will have a desire to grow as a lawyer and enhance the department.
Marketing and networking skills are essential to continue to develop the team.
CORE TASKS (not an exhaustive list):
Deal wherever possible with routine client enquiries and communications.
Manage the collation of matter start and matter completion data and prepare all claims for
costs.
Manage own work billing on Leap/CCMS and, where required, assist senior solicitors with
their billing.
Deputise for other caseworkers in their absence, passing urgent issues to another senior
solicitor in another team for guidance (if a small team).

Co-ordination of the key dates reminder system as outlined in the office manual.
Co-ordinating, conducting or supporting the process for efficient progress of client matters.
Managing the processes for sending daily and weekly update e-mails and alerts.
Under supervision, making changes to document content as part of the maintenance cycle.
Assisting with the maintenance of online and hard copy resources, including legislation
update.
With support and supervision from colleagues, responding to queries from clients and
providing support to others to ensure that questions are answered and updated
appropriately.
Providing administrative support to the team to help implement new file management
procedures and working systems.
Performing general administration duties and managing internal processes for the Practice
Area teams, particularly in relation to Public Law, Community Care and Fire Safety Law.

Requirements

Requirements

The successful applicant will have proven experience in providing housing advice and representation under an LAA contract. S/he will have sound knowledge of housing law, including homelessness, possession, and disrepair, and will have experience representing clients in possession proceedings.


Applicant will also have or demonstrate interest in community care practice areas.


Successful candidates must have a fair knowledge of LAA standard contract.
